From September 15th, 2017 until April 08th, 2018, the Petit Palais is showcasing a selection of around 150 from its collection of more than 200 pastels, offering an overview of the major artistic movements of the second half of the 19th-century.

From Impressionism to Symbolism, the selection on display shows some of the most notable works, including pieces made by Renoir, Gauguin, Degas, Leandre, Osbert, Menard, Redon, Tissot, and many other iconic figures.

The pastel technique was one of the most remarkable techniques that allowed artists of that period to quickly create works in a diverse variety of styles and that ranged from simple colored sketches to highly proficient artworks.
