Franz Marc and August Macke. 1909-1914

This exhibition at Musee de L’Orangie offers a chance for art lovers to learn more about Franz Marc and August Macke and their work.

From 06/03/2019 to 17/06/2019

Franz Marc and August Macke are two of the most interesting figures in German art of the early 20th century. The pair worked together for a long time, sharing a love of the same European masters, painting together and learning side by side. They shared an interesting path of discovery across their short lives, before perishing in the great war at just 36 and 27 respectively.

An encounter with Kandinsky just before the war led to the formation of The Blue Rider Almanac. Marc became famous for his blue horses and abstract approach while Macke focused on human relationships with nature.

This 2019 show at the Musee de L’orangie offers a chance for art lovers to learn more about this duo and their work. Their short lives and evolutionary style mean that they could all too easily go unnoticed by some galleries. Here we can see them for the talents that they were.

The show starts on March 6th and continues until June 17th, 2019.
