Behind the scenes of the big screen

Take a look behind the scenes at the Mecca of the big screen in Paris, Le Rex. Listed as a historical monument, this mythical site allows you to step behind the screen and access areas previously reserved to the professionals: the projection room, equipment, sound effects studio, film sets, the magic of special effects, a meeting with a cartoon star.... all aboard for a fabulous voyage interactive and fun.

First Quarter
Maison & Objet France’s furniture and interiors trade fair (January)
Six Nations Rugby The rugby tournament brings together England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy. (February and March)
Fashion Week Women’s pret-a-porter collections for the following winter (March).
• March.: International book exposition, is held annually at the end of the month.
• March.-April.: Foire du Trone amusement park is in the Bois de Vincennes.

Second Quarter
• Late April : The International Paris Marathon runs through the city and nearby woods.
• Early May: At the Foire de Paris hundreds of booths display everything from crafts to wines.
• End of May: The Course des Garçons de Café is an entertaining race through the streets of Paris by waiters bearing full trays of drinks. It begins and ends at the Hotel de Ville.
• May-late September.: Grandes Eaux Musicales is a fountain display at the Château de Versailles, Paris.
• Late May-early June: Festival de Jazz de Boulogne-Billancourt attracts big names and varied styles of jazz in the suburbs of Boulogne-Billancourt.
French Tennis Open Over two weeks , starting on the last Sunday in May, the world’s top players battle it out on a clay court. (May)
• Mid-June-mid-July: Festival du Marais features everything from music to dance to theater in the churches and historic mansions of the Marais
• June: The Paris Airshow, which takes place in odd-numbered years only, is a display of old and new planes and an update on worldwide technological developments in the aeronautical industry, at Le Bourget Airport.
• Mid-June: Grand Steeplechase de Paris is a popular horse race at Auteuil Race course.
Fête de la Musique Paris celebrates the summer solstice (21st June) with this city-wide free musical knees-up. (June)

Third Quarter
• July 14: Bastille Day celebrates the French Revolution. There's a military parade along the Champs-Elysses in the morning, fireworks at night at Trocadro, and local firemen's balls that spill into the streets of every Paris arrondissement.
• Late July: Tour de France, the world's leading bicycle race, finishes on the Champs-Elysees.
• Late July-end Aug.: Musique en l'Ile is a series of concerts held in the picturesque XVIIth-century Eglise St-Louis on the Ile St-Louis.
Paris Plage This now notorious event sees an artificial beach set up on the banks of the Seine for 6 weeks over summer. Urban family fun. (August)
Rock en Seine On the last full weekend in August, this world-class fest reunites international rock stars. (August)
• Paris, quartier d'Eté proof that life continues even when Parisians seem to have left town for the summer. World and classical music, unusual circus, dance, cabaret, and theatre...Held in the Luxembourg garden, the Tuileries garden, the Sorbonne, Paris, the Palais Royal.
Cinema en Plein Air The annual outdoor cinema event takes place at the Parc de la Villette, on Europe’s largest inflatable screen. (July and August)
Jazz à la Villette The biggest names in contemporary jazz from around the world at Paris' annual jazz festival. (September)

Fourth Quarter
• Late September: On the Journée du Patrimoine, the third Sunday in September, historic buildings are open to the public.
• Late September.: Biennale des Antiquaires, the world's swankiest antiques fair, takes place at the Carrousel du Louvre, Paris.
• Mid-September.-December: The Festival d'Automne is a series of concerts, plays, dances, and exhibitions throughout Paris
• Early October.: Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, one of Europe's top horse races, takes place at Longchamp Race course.
• Early October: The Fêtes des Vendanges, held the first Saturday of October, marks the grape harvest in the Montmartre Vineyard, at the corner of rue des Saules and rue St-Vincent.
Nuit Blanche Paris is transformed into a moonlit theme-park for this arty all-nighter.(first Saturday of October)
• Early October :International Fair of Contemporary Art takes place on quai Branly.
• October : Paris Motor Show at the Porte de Versailles, Paris, features the latest developments in the automobile industry.

• September : Fête a Neu-Neu amusement park is in the Bois de Boulogne.
• Mid-October-early November : Festival de Jazz de Paris is a two-week celebration that includes lots of big-name jazz artists
• November.: Mois de la Photo. Classic and contemporary art and documentary photography on show at museums, cultural centers and galleries.
• Third Thursday in Nov ember.: Beaujolais Nouveau, a light, fruity wine from the Beaujolais region of France, is officially "released" at midnight on Wednesday.
• Late December : Christmas in Paris is highlighted by illuminations throughout the city, particularly on the Champs-Elysees, avenue Montaigne, and bd Haussmann. A giant crèche is set up outside the Hotel de Ville.
