Fashion Mix : French fashion by foreign designers

Fashion Mix exhibition held until May 31, evokes the contribution of renowned foreign designers in making Paris the International Fashion capital it is now.

From 09/12/2014 to 31/05/2015

French haute couture is an expertise celebrated around the world, though little we know about the contribution of non french designers in making the repute of Paris being a fashion capital.

Fashion Mix exhibition "French fashion by foreign designers" ( Mode d'ici, créateurs d'ailleurs) which is held in the Museum of History and Immigration tells the story of these designers who have lived in Paris and have imported their specific expertise, silhouettes and materials to participate in the "Made in France" couture.

From Charles Frederick Worth to Azzedine Alaïa , Mariano Fortuny Issey Miyake , Elsa Schiaparelli Martin Margiela... the exhibition will reveal a hundred iconic haute couture pieces and archival records to tell the story of these foreign artists living in Paris since 19th century.

Fashion Mix exhibition is a new way to draw the personal routes of artisans and designers who for a reason or another have left their countries.

Driven by political or artistic reasons, these designers have often had to be recognized by the French government to continue to practice their art.

Between personal routes and history of fashion, Fashion Mix tells another story of immigration. A story  of those men and women, artisans, designers, contributing to the reputation of Paris, the international capital of fashion.
